Chapter 12 – Quarantine Reading List – Leadership
It’s clear we will need innovation and leadership to overcome the health and economic challenges posed by the pandemic to our businesses and community. While you are staying home to stay healthy, make a change to your schedule to incorporate some constructive reading. See my previous reading suggestions and consider the two new books I’m suggesting below.
This short reading list covers two key elements of leadership that we can all improve – how we think and how we feel as leaders. In Principles, Ray Dalio takes us through his approach to leadership decision making, focused on radical transparency and thoughtful disagreements to create testable principles. These principles provide a measuring system for decisions that avoids cognitive bias and builds trust. In Dare to Lead, Brené Brown helps us understand and overcome fear as leaders. I’ve been reading these books alongside each other and that’s raised some thoughtful disagreements of my own, which have been answered by each author as I proceeded. It’s been a very nice remote conversation, and I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts.
“Principles” by Ray Dalio
“Dare to Lead” by Brené Brown
