One goal of the FDA’s Medical Device Safety Action Plan (see my previous post on the plan) is to support an improved national medical device evaluation and surveillance system. The Medical Device Epidemiology Network (MDEpiNet) is a public-private partnership established to build and operate that national device ecosystem. One of its projects, the Women’s Health Coordinated Registry Network, is a good example of how the partnership intends to develop electronic data collection strategies to support this ecosystem. The Women’s CRN web page describes the project’s plan to collect data from electronic health records and use that data to address 2-3 priority women’s health questions. The project was conducted from 2Q2017 to 4Q2018 and closes with a report that we may hope to see soon. My request for the report has so far received no response.
